It's important to pray. But what is prayer?
When we hear the word, we most often associate it with religion. Many even associate it with a particular religion. But we know that people from all different religions and spiritual beliefs pray. The words vary, the style varies and even to whom they pray varies. But every single day, many many many of us, pray.
What do we do when we pray? Are we asking for something? Praising a deity? Thanking a deity? All of the above? Are we chanting a pre-written script or are we speaking from the heart? Are we using words at all or are we visualizing? Perhaps we are in deep meditation and our mind is clear of words and visuals and we are trying to accomplish that place of pure silence of spirit. Are we channeling or simply communicating with whatever it is we believe God to be? And if your idea of God is correct, and mine is not, then are my prayers unheard? Are any prayers "heard"?
It's all that and more, but at the same time, that's not it at all. If you are not a "religious person" should you pray? Absolutely! In fact, perhaps that is the best way to pray - without the confines and boxed walls of religious dogma.
Prayer is communication indeed. And it does not matter what your specific beliefs are, as long as you truly and honest believe in your prayer. THAT, my friends is the key.
When we truly pray - we are offering a vibrational thought (even if it's not in words) out to the energy of the universe. We are connecting to the pulse, the energy, God with a strong vibration of desire, gratitude, need etc. And manifesting a powerful vibrational ribbon that bonds us to this force. It is the force of the universe, the pulse of creation, the vibration that is all that is - God. When we engage in real, true prayer, we are 'plugging in' so-to-speak to the divinity that is the essence of everything that exists.
We are not reaching or attempting to communicate with something "out there". No, we are focusing on and creating a stronger pulse with what is "in there". It's IN you. It's around you. It's part of you and you are part of it. You the spiritual extension of God and God is an extension of your soul. My soul, everyone's soul.
Many of us begin to pray (if we do at all) and in the back corner of our mind we are thinking "I hope this works....what am I doing? am I talking to myself? Is anyone out there? Is this pointless? Oh god I hope you are listening, I hope this works" But that's not praying folks. That's just going through the motions of something you were taught to do at some point in your life. You are essentially offering a vibration of doubt or desperation (or both) into the universe, and so nothing more than doubt or desperation will manifest as a result.
When you pray - PRAY. Embrace the connection that you know you feel deep within your soul. Focus not on your words, focus not on a particular deity, focus on your spirit and that pure, unmistakable energetic connection to the vibrational pulse that bonds us all together and in the source of life that is - God.
Many of us concentrate on our physical positioning, the way we hold our hands, where we are in the room, the words we use, the tone we use... and whatever makes you comfortable is fine... but what matters more than anything else is that you absolutely and undeniably believe in the thought you are offering to the universe.
Because if you do - believe it thoroughly - remarkable things happen and it does not matter whatsoever from which religious view you take. I will go so far as to say perhaps try stepping away from the religious rules of prayer and simply allow yourself to truly feel your connection. Then let your spirit send the pulse of desire, without your logical words interfering.
You do not have to be religious to pray.
Just - Pray.
