Political Anger

I was having a conversation recently about the weight of my political activism and how it has become less lofty in my recent months. For those of you who may not know, I have been for some time very active in politics and would engage in very public ways. My views are fairly strong (as ones views always should be) and I had been very vocal about it for a long time. Something happened sometime last year that seriously made me rethink my current route in life. I remain very socially and politically aware and that awareness is weaved into the actions I take and decisions I make on a daily basis, but the days of waving my fist in the air and angrily yelling at the "other side" are falling behind me as I try to find a balanced point on which to stand. A perch from which to display to the world the joys of being aware, being responsible AND yet remaining spiritually balanced.

I mentioned the fact that going down that road seemed to have me in this place where I put out a great deal of angry energy and thus got back a great deal of angry energy - often slapped right back at me HARD. I said "It just seemed to make me so angry all the time." Of course when one looks at the political situation the world is in, it's easy to get very angry, but to stay there isn't helpful to anyone.

Below, I have pasted for you my friends response. I was so inspired by what she said, that I felt compelled to share it with you all. I hope it reaches you, speaks to you, makes sense to you.... and makes you smile more in public - despite the things that can make us angry... :) (From my friend, Mellisa)

"...Most of it IS full of anger.... that's why i cannot STAY there any length of time. It's just like the Law Of Attraction ... WHAT are we giving our attention too, you know? The Universe feels like this massive creative energy and people manipulate and bend it to whatever they want to see, feel, touch and do. There is no judgment on that. But I almost feel like you even have to disconnect with the political stuff because I think God is beyond that. I think The Universe just wants to experience and express... it is man's unconscious that brings us the nightmare, because man in general, lives in a constant state of fear. All this government stuff, all these wars, all this hatred and etc is just a manifestation of FEAR people have. They are afraid that they are unloved... that someone is going to get them, hurt them, hurt their family or loved ones, take away their possessions or anything that really means anything to them. But what they do not realize is that no one can truly take away anything, because all is in the mind of God... even these bodies! It would be painful to be locked up, deprived of freedom, to have our families hurt (think of some war torn countries they experience this daily!) and yet in the eyes of God you have lost nothing, you are still whole and complete... and you are just living in a nightmare created by the masses and accepted into your reality by your attention to it. Now I know this is getting way way metaphysical but I think the whole point is detachment. If we realize that every day we can be thankful for one more day to bless others, one more to share, to love, to laugh, to spread joy and warm hearts, then we are to be thankful for that breath. But when we die, we go on... we will soon be joined by our family to laugh and joke and realize that it was all a great dramatic play. we are all soul friends and in fact all connected and all One. Enlightenment comes I think when we can look into the face of a devil and still see God. When we see beyond the illusion and we really are at peace because all we see is beauty and wonder. Detach from the nightmare, from the drama and the illusion and wake up to the wonder filled creation that you are. "
